Kathryn van der Pol
Kathryn graduated from Rice University with a degree in Latin. She was a summer Fellow at the American Academy in Rome and also holds her master’s in automotive management.
She taught Latin and history for 24 years. Seventeen of those years were at St. John’s School in Houston. Before that she taught at St. Thomas Episcopal School.
After teaching 24 years, she switched gears and operated a 14-bay auto repair shop for another 17 years.
Currently, she’s the founding board member and Secretary for Heritage Classical Academy.
Kathryn operates a retreat center in Washington County. In addition, she and her husband train cyclists for long distance rides in the Ready2Roll Cycling series.
Kathryn recently received recognition from the State Board of Education for her work in education.
She also received the National ASA Legislative Award for her work in the automotive industry and is an alumna from the Goldman Sachs 10000 Small Business program, Cohort 5.
She enjoys bike riding with her husband and loves to write, garden, and study the classics. She is a mother of three daughters and grandmother to three grandchildren.
